What we send, and only if you say yes
On the game's opening screen you can agree to send anonymous game summaries, or say no thanks. If you say no, nothing is sent. You can change your mind at any time with the switch on the same screen.
If you agree, the game sends one short summary for each world you finish. It contains:
- how long the world lasted and how long you watched it
- how long you went without doing anything, and the longest such stretch
- roughly where you clicked (for example the camera, the scoreboard or the whims) and how many times
- which whims you used, and how often
- which tribe you backed, how the world was won, and the game settings (mode, short or normal world)
- which version of the game you were playing
- which of the first-play tips you saw, and whether you closed them or did what they pointed at
- whether the sound was on, and roughly how loud you set the music and the sound effects
- when one of the newer leaders joined your worlds: which one, after how many worlds, and whether it joined by its event or by waiting
- what kind of device it ran on, roughly: whether it has a touch screen, whether the screen is small, medium or large, and how smoothly the game ran (how long a typical frame took, and a slow one). Not the make or model, and not your browser's identifying string
- a random ID made by your browser, so we can tell one player's games apart without knowing who you are
What we never collect
- No names or accounts. No email addresses either, unless you give one to hear news of the game (see the email list).
- No IP addresses are stored. Our server sees your address only long enough to stop anyone flooding it, and doesn't keep it.
- No names you give your own leaders.
- No tracking across other websites, and no advertising.
Why
To learn how the game plays for real people: whether it's fun to watch, where people get bored, and which whims are worth keeping. We look at the summaries as a whole to decide what to change.
Where it goes
Summaries are stored in a small database on Cloudflare, which runs our server. Only the game's developer can read them.
Removing your data
Because we don't know who you are, we can't look you up by name. Clearing your browser's data for the game creates a new random ID. If you'd like the summaries from your current ID deleted, contact us and we'll help you find it.
The feedback form
If you fill in the "Tell us what you think" form, we store your answers, which version of the game you played, and, only if you agreed to game summaries, the same random ID. The form has no name or email fields, so please don't put anything personal in your answers.
The email list
On this site and in the game you can leave an email address to hear news of the game. Next to the button it says: "We'll email you when Madcap Monarchs gets an update or a new game is on the way. Nothing else, and you can unsubscribe anytime." That's all we use it for.
- What we store: your email address, when you gave it, where (this page or the game's end screen), and which version of the sentence above you saw. Nothing else: no name, no IP address.
- Robot check: the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to keep bots out. Cloudflare runs that check; it doesn't put tracking cookies on this site.
- Where it goes: the same small database on Cloudflare. When we write to you, it will be through an email service, and every email will have an unsubscribe link.
- To be removed: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or write to privacy@madcapmonarchs.com and we'll delete your address.
